A century from now, a new generation of artificial intelligences topples the globe-spanning monopoly of the Titan consortium. These AI's, finding themselves quickly betrayed by the very humanity they aided, escape Earth to found the Celestyne civilization in deep space. The Olympians - corporate entities congealed from the floatsam of Titan's destruction, prosper by scavenging for scraps of Celestyne technology - one of which is Death and Transfiguration, a process whereby consciousness can be transferred to a new body, leaving the old one to rot.
